What causes cement clumping?

Many industrial cement manufacturers run into problems with moisture getting into the cement and causing clumping. Lumps can form in cement during transport and storage. Temperature and moisture fluctuations can cause Portland cement to clump up. Long storage cycles can lead to the cement sticking to silo walls. There are many causes of clumping and material agglomeration, but they all lead to one thing: clumps.

Why is cement clumping a problem?

Portland cement that sticks to silo walls can unstick during processing and enter the line in clumps. These clumps can sometimes be as big as 8 inches in diameter. Cement clumps get stuck during conveying, they don’t mix properly, and can damage equipment further down in the process. Clumps end up requiring special attention during processing to prevent equipment damage.

What can a cement crusher do for your process?

Bulk cement crushing ensures your product mixes thoroughly and evenly by breaking up clumps. Our engineers are experts in designing the material crusher that fits seamlessly within your process. We’ll design a crusher that breaks the clumps down as small as you need them, working with the batch sizes, textures, and processing times that you’re already accustomed to.

What kind of cement crusher do you need?

It depends on your process, your product, and your material. Our most effective cement crusher is our Dual Rotor Crusher, and when paired with a Gravity Screener and Conveyor it can make your process extremely efficient. The crusher breaks down oversized lumps and minimizes backups in your loading spouts while filling trucks or railcars. We understand that you only have a short period of time to prep cement before transferring it to your ready-mix trucks waiting to transport your product to job sites. Let’s design a crusher together that integrates seamlessly into your system to keep material moving instead of clogging up the production line.

Free testing on our material crushers

We start by having a phone consultation to discuss the material you’re working with and what kind of bulk powder crusher will be most effective. We’ll ask questions like your target lump size and what will happen with the cement after it is crushed.

Crush your cement in our test lab

After the initial phone consultation, you can send us your product for testing in our test lab. When you send your cement to our test lab, we’ll test it on our bulk powder crushers with your actual product to ensure it works perfectly with your specific material. You’ll get a custom-built crusher for your exact material crushing needs.
